Tractor Snow Art and Cows

My mind tends to wander when I’m driving the tractor feeding cows.  It’s a tad bit of a boring job for 20 minutes and it’s amazing what can go through a girls head during that time.  But don’t worry, I’m still paying attention; for the most part.  That’s what I tell my Farmer anyhow.  Today in my mind, I was imagining doing some Tractor Snow Art, making a design in the snow with the tractor.  Something for Christmas like a star, or ho ho ho.  Merry Christmas would probably be to much.  Our feedlot is right under the flight path of our local airport so all the planes coming in would see it.  That would be so cool.  Kind of my own “welcome to our area” sign.  I have tried this Tractor Snow Art before.  It was last Valentine’s day.  A storm had blanketed the feedlot with fresh new snow, so I decided to drive in the shape of a heart while we were feeding. I figured my Farmer would look back when we were done feeding, see the heart and say “Ahhhh, that’s so cool. Happy Valentines day to you too”. (my mind imagines a lot!)  Didn’t happen.  It was wayyyy harder then I thought it would be.  Even if I did drive in a heart shape (it was a bit lope sided), the dang cows walked out of the lines and messed it all up.  After we were done feeding, I had to point it out to my Farmer.  He hadn’t see it, so it didn’t Ahhhhh him.  His actual comment was “I wondered why you were zigzagging all over the place”.  So much for trying to Ahhhh him.
As I am writing this, I am reminded that there are some people that I know that did make a heart on their feedlot.  I seen a picture of it.  All the cows standing and eating in a perfect heart shape.  They made it for their mother.  As Life Flight flew their mother over, in her last look at her beloved ranch, the heart on the feedlot was what she saw.  In my opinion, that was the most amazing tribute that they could have ever done for her.  It still tugs at my heart.
I don’t think I will be trying to make a heart on the feedlot again.  It would never stand up to that one made for my friend by her family.  I probably won’t be making any other form of Tractor Snow Art on the feedlot either. Other than my usual circle or oval. Or maybe its a tear drop. Not really sure. But what ever it is, that’s about all the Tractor Snow Art talent I’ve got, apparently.

Here’s to the memory of my friend.

I’m living the Farm Life, she lived the Ranch Life.

hand drawn heart
