    Today is my moms birthday.  I told my Farmer a few days ago that it was coming up.  He, being the thoughtful person that he is, asked if I wanted to do anything.  Like go out to dinner or something.  I said no, I’d be fine.  Then this morning, as Facebook popped up a memory (dang Facebook), I was not.  The memory was pictures of the last birthday we celebrated with my mom.  The pictures were of her with two of her great grandchildren.  Yes, the tears flowed.  Yet that picture made me ponder her life and made me once again feel grateful for my time with her.  I learned…

    It Takes a Rope to Lead a Cow

    After blogging about the difference between a farmer and a rancher, I want to tell you a little story about an incident that happened a few years back. Quite a few years back actually.   We had a cow that was having difficulties calving and we needed to get her into the corral so we could help her.  She did not want help and there was no way she was going into the corral.  After running her around in circles, or she was running us around, I asked my Farmer if maybe we could rope her. He’s first reaction was, “What good would that do!?  Once we get a rope on…

    Potato Chip Pecan Cookies

    I LOVE this cookie!!  It’s a great way to use up the last of a bag of potato chips.  They are usually all broken up and get tossed anyways, so why not make some yummy cookies!  This cookie tastes like those pecan shortbread cookies you buy at the store.   Potato Chip Cookies -makes 7 dozen1 1/2 cup sugar3 sticks butter or margarine2 egg yolks2 tsp vanilla1 1/2 cup crushed potato chips1 tsp baking soda3 cups flour1 cup pecans (or walnuts) Mix all ingredients together well and roll into balls the size of a walnut.  Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, pressing down with a fork.  Bake for 12 minutes at…
