Calves drop when the pressure drops
Calves drop when the pressure drops. It’s TRUE. Around here, any ways. Whenever a storm hits and the air pressure drops, we can ALWAYS count on having lots of babies. Today was that day, well it actually started last night. We had 8 new baby calves born today. Yesterday we had 4. Our average is 2 or 3. Fortunately only one had to be brought to the corral to be helped. Usually when the weather is bad like it was today, it seems like they all need help eating.
I’d like to know if there is a scientific reason as to why more cows have their calves when the pressure drops. Is it true with other animals also? How about humans? I’ve wondered if hospitals are busier with women having more babies when the pressure drops. Just one of those thoughts that runs through my head as I am hanging out on the feedlot with the cows, watching all the new babies in the cold, blowing snow, wishing the sun would shine just for a bit so they can soak in some warmth.
That’s my thought for today. Short and sweet. I best hit the sack in case my Farmer needs help in the middle of the night or early morning with the calves. Honestly, right now is when I do start wondering about this, Livin’ the Life, the Farm Life that is… 😉
If you have an answer to my questions, I would love to hear it!! Leave me a comment. Thanks!!
